Reducing child deaths on European roads

Children are particularly vulnerable road users and this new ETSC report, Reducing child deaths on European roads, examines the latest data on child deaths from across the EU and other countries that form part of the ETSC’s Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) Programme.

The report also looks at the main measures for reducing risks to children, including vehicle safety, child restraint systems, improved infrastructure, mobility policies, education helmet use, pre-hospital care and licensing of young drivers. The report observes that ‘countries with a good child road safety record tend to have good overall road safety performance characterised by a well-established and integrated approach.’

The report contains a number of recommendations for national and EU policymakers, together with a list of priority measures.
