Incentives for action to prevent childhood accidents:

The National Healthy Schools Programme (NHSP) provides guidance to schools on the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. In July 2010 the Coalition Government confirmed that Healthy Schools would continue. The organisation of Healthy Schools is changing – national, regionally and locally – and all key Healthy Schools guidance and resources moved to the Department for Education (DfE) website at the end of March 2011.

The role of school nurses, extended schools activities and PSHE can contribute to improved awareness of safety and risk. Risk awareness and risk management are part of the PSHE curriculum.

Safety education may also be covered at different stages with input from community partners (e.g. road safety, police, fire and rescue, interactive safety centres).

There is guidance on the health and safety of pupils on educational visits, which guards the safety of children and young people when they are outside school premises.
